Lisa tagged me and here are the rules:
1. List seven random facts/habits about yourself
2. Choose another SEVEN bloggers to tag and list their names in your blog
3. Leave your seven tagged bloggers comments to notfiy them of their tagging and to direct them to your blog for tag instructions.
Ok so here goes.
1. I'm the oldest of five and the only girl. My brothers are Jeremy (27) getting married in three weeks! Daniel is 25, Tyler will be 18 in a couple weeks and is graduating on the 31st and Christian is almost 13!
2. I hate housework and don't like to cook either lol. I love baking but everyday cooking is the pits. The most domestic thing I do is sew. Years ago my Mom and Kenny thought I should name my business "Lizzie can't cook...but she can sew" I was not amused. I CAN cook I just don't like it very much.
3. I am the most disorganized person I know lol. I don't want to be! I am always coming up with a new system but they seem to fall apart. I shouldn't say I'm the most disorganized because on the other hand, I'm the most organized in my family rofl. I have had some success with the kids...some...tiny victories.
4. I absolutely love to play "Texas Hold'em" poker. We have a weekly game and I am the only woman that plays. I like it that way. I prefer playing face to face instead of online as it's easier to use my feminine intuition lol. I am not the smartest player as I'm too emotional. I should never get in a hand with my husband because I can't think clearly, I just want to beat him lol. The guys joke and say if I wrote a poker book it would be titled "Calling in anger" lol. That's so true.
5. I am a big proponent of natural childbirth. I had my second child at home with a midwife and was at a birth center with Claire until she turned in the middle of labor and tried to come out arm and shoulder first lol. I am not saying it's for everyone but I do think that all the medical interventions that are common today tend to complicate and frustrate labor therfore making it neccessary for other medical interventions. That being said, I am grateful for modern medical technology. My little blonde stinker is proof of that. Now that I have no choice in the matter and must have another c-section, I've decided to ask for all the drugs I can have lol. I'm a person of extremes. I go from absolutely no drugs to asking for a drug menu.
6. Some of my favorite shows on T.V. are "Flip this house" on A.&E., Amazing Race, Heroes, Project Runway and the various poker shows we watch.
7. I have always dreamed of owning a bit of land outside of town and building a house. I would love to let the kids run wild. Maybe have a big barn like studio to work in. Ok enough daydreaming, I have to get some work done lol.
OK I've been cruising blogs and it seems almost everybody has been tagged already! Here are a few that I don't think have been tagged yet.
I am just now catching up after the weekend. We went to East Texas to visit my Grandmother and got home late Sunday night. I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach virus and was dead to the world until late last night. I'm feeling better today and trying to catch up on things. Lisa has tagged me on her blog so I WILL post my facts tomorrow ;)
Here are a couple pics of Claire from over the weekend. She walked around the College with our friend Emily and picked some flowers for me for Mother's Day. She thinks every flower is like a dandelion and therefore blows frantically on them lol.
Whenever I get an idea for a theme whether it be for something I'm making or a decorative idea for an event my mom and I are planning, I start to see it everywhere. I love the little bird theme and there are so many items out there that are adorable with little bird motifs. So I decided I would just spotlight some of my favorites.
Lisa mentioned the bird phenomenon a week or two ago and how there's some fabulous fabrics out there with bird prints. She of course made beautiful bags with some of those fabrics. You can see them in her entries here and here.
Etsy has some adorable birdie items including this little bracelet
which you can find from the seller appropriately named Miss Bluebird Creations
This onesie is so sweet! I'm such a sucker for hand embroidery.
It's from the seller roseyposeyconfection
Love this blanket by quiltbaby!
These silkscreened pillows by joom are beautiful!
I could go on and on but I have to go to bed as it's after 1 a.m. here. Not that I'm getting much sleep these days but I at least have to make the effort ;)
A while back I linked to this tutorial on super circles from Anna Maria Horner's blog. I had a lot of fun playing around with this technique. I've wanted to try blanket stitch applique for a while and thought this would be the perfect way to do that. I made this dress that I just listed on ebay:
Here's a close up of the little bird

The only thing I added was some fusible interfacing which helped give my shapes a bit more substance so the edges would press under easier. It was a lot of fun!
Oh how I love my Bernina! I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the other day when we had a tornado warning with sirens and the whole works, immediately after thinking about getting the kids up and to shelter, I thought about my machine and where the safest place for it would be ROFL! We are lucky because the little campus we live on has a house with a basement next door. Not many places here in Texas have basements. We have had plenty of severe weather here lately and the kids have taken to sleeping with their shoes right by their bed in case they have to get up lol. They are big worriers when it comes to weather. Ah, spring in Texas...
I had planned to finish pictures of some skirts and dresses today and load them into my etsy store. Of course it's been dark and rainy so far. Here's a little preview of one. I decided to use some of my favorite scraps I have that I can't use for other things. This one uses the few pieces I have left of the LaZagala euro print and some other fun scraps.
I hope everyone had a great Easter! It was really cold here in Texas but we managed to squeeze in some egg hunting yesterday afternoon. Here's a pic of all three kids after quickly hunting eggs.
I had a brilliant idea for baby bibs that I've been reworking for the last few days lol. I hope I can settle on one method that works that I like. I'll give a preview of them soon.
Both Tori and Gyl tagged me to join in and turn myself into one of the non-complainers. Here are the rules
There's a movement right now to help create a Complaint Free World. Can YOU do it? Can you go without complaining for 21 days? Scientists say it takes 21 days to break a habit and create a new one. So can you? Here's what you need to do.
Go to Beki's blog to read more about this fun challenge. The problem I am faced with is that most of the people I would have tagged are already on the list. That was just a statement of fact by the way, not a complaint lol. This really is a good idea as I don't like hearing my kids complain and I KNOW I could be a better example in this area. Although as I mentioned on Beki's blog, there has to be some sort of pregnant exemption for complaining don't you think?
Thursday morning I decided to make a doll for Claire's Birthday. I thought about starting from scratch but remembered seeing the adorable dolls that Hilary Lang designed so I went to her Wee Wonderfuls blog and bought the pattern. I downloaded it on the spot and was on my way. I love vintage reproduction fabric and had some really cute bits and pieces that I threw together to make Olive. Claire absolutely loves her! I actually have a little Olive ballerina that's almost finished that I plan to give her. I've got to make her the tutus that I planned and I will give them all to her at the same time. Here are some pics of her enjoying her new doll.
I just listed this Pretty Posy set on ebay tonight. I have about five different dresses that are almost done that I will hopefully finish soon and put in my etsy shop.
Stay tuned...
I have been busy sewing this week. I got my new camera woohoo! Now I have to finish about 5 dofferent unfinished projects so I can take some pics. I decided to open an Etsy store. I have wanted to offer my favorite simple classic styles and I think that Etsy will be a great place to do that. Here's a sneek peek at my store banner (click on it to see the full size image). Have a great weekend!
I've been busy working on some new dresses and waiting for my new camera to arrive. It should come tomorrow or the next day. I'm so excited! I have been taking pics for ebay with a little 3 megapixel camera lol. I would love to get one of the fancy shmancy dslr cameras but don't have the money for one just yet. So I got a great deal on a much nicer powershot than I had before.
My Grandmother has been cleaning out her closets and sent me some sewing related articles. I ended up throwing most of it out but cracked up at one thing she sent. It was a Dritz pamphlet on how to pick the appropriate shoulder pads for your outfit. It was dated 1986. I hope shoulder pads never come back into fashion. I never could understand why the linebacker look was attractive. My Dh Kenny teaches Highschool students and I swear they are so enamoured of the 80's. I went by his class the other day and there was this nice girl in her school uniform wearing these huge square 80's style earings that were pink and white striped. I told her they reminded me of Pat Benatar. Of course none of them knew who Pat Benatar was lol. I wasn't that old in the 80's but I know Pat Benatar. I have yet to meet someone who lived through and really remembers the 80's and is desperate for them to come back.
This post on how to make the perfect fabric circle from Anna Maria Horner got me so excited! I love learning new tricks! I have a few books from my quilting days that talk about applique methods using freezer paper and pressing but I've never seen this foil idea. It's so cool! I made a baby quilt for a friend a few years ago that had chenille circles appliqued on it. Oh was it a pain in the bootie to make.
I loved the way it turned out though. I don't think chenille would work with this method but imagine all the possibilities. Now I have to do something with circles lol. Hmm...I wonder what I could make....
My Green Apples set was mentioned today on the BDB blog as one of this weeks favorites! Thanks so much BDB boardies!
Well I finally got some new things listed. I love this apple fabric and couldn't make just one thing with it.
Here's Green Apples
and how about some Apple Pie
Sandi is playing along in a game of tag in which you have to post your favorite design. That's a pretty tall order lol. I think my watermelon parade set from last summer would have to be my favorite. I could probably make 10 different outfits in a fruit theme. It's so much fun!
A sentimental pick would be the first set I ever put on ebay. It was a sweet little dress and bloomer set made from some of my favorite Amy Butler fabric. Oh how I wish I could get my hands on more of that Temple flowers fabric.
I cringe at the quality of pics and editing lol. It's still fun to stroll down memory lane.
Well I decided to start blogging again and to upgrade to Typepad thanks to the recommendation of the fabulous Sandi-Portabello Pixie. So far I love it but am still a bit confused by all the options.
I haven't listed anything on ebay in months! I have a good excuse though lol. I am expecting my fourth child in June and up to now have only felt motivated to sleep and eat more. You can't keep creative hands still for long though and I have a couple new things I should be listing in the next day or two. Thanks for stopping by to see the new blog!
